On Friday, 21st of March, we witnessed an intervention in the landscape at various locations in the municipality. That is what its author, the urban artist Darko, called these actions organised on the occasion of World Poetry Day. The graffiti artist made a curious version of the typical police beacon tape, using it to cordon off a Local Police vehicle in the middle of the Plaza Virgen de la Peña in Mijas Pueblo and façade of the Manuel España Theatre in Las Lagunas. The initiative surprised passers-by and, at times, also alarmed them, but many decided to capture the moment with their mobile phones, using the action as a photocall in the case of the theatre in Las Lagunas. "We decided to carry out a more disruptive action and to use tape reading reading ‘Local Poetry' instead of ‘Local Police'", said the urban artist Darko, who, with this staging, invited us to reflect on a world that seems to be in a hurry and in which details seem to go unnoticed.

"We have all internalised a series of logos, emblems, typographies and colours and the mere fact of seeing a white and blue tape with that typography makes us think that it belongs to the Local Police, in fact in the theatre this has happened, people have approached us thinking that something had happened".  A situation that also occurred in the village, where a lady told the artist that the text on the tape was wrong, and then when she received his explanations, she laughed. 

The artist had already carried out this action in Málaga between 2011 and 2012. "I did it in different demolitions and talking to Culture Department, whom I thank for their support, we decided to do it and I was very happy. Intervening a police car was something I hadn't done yet". 

Darko is currently collaborating with the Mijas Culture Department, giving a workshop on landscape intervention, which began a few weeks ago and will run until the 25th of May. 

The municipal libraries, for their part, joined in the commemoration of this day by setting up stands with different poetry books.
