Rotary and the Autism Charity Food association join forces to install shade for Adimi

The two groups organised a day of flamenco and live music at the Cortijo Don Elías on Sunday to raise funds

The Rotary Club Mijas International and the Autism Charity Food Association joined forces last Sunday 16th to celebrate a charity event to raise funds to install five shade sails in the garden of the Adimi day care centre. The Cortijo Don Elías hosted this party, which included flamenco and live music and was organised by both groups. “During our visits to Adimi we have seen that the garden is very big, very beautiful, but it is totally exposed to the sun, it has no shade. Laura, from Adimi, has explained to us that the users don’t notice when they get sunburnt and that is very dangerous”, said Katja Range, president of the Rotary Club Mijas International.

This is one of the events that Rotary has organised to raise the 10,000 euros it costs to install the shade sails. On this occasion they had the help of the Autism Charity Food Association. “We usually collaborate with Adimi, we have done it several times. We have contacts with Rotary and we came up with the idea of doing this flamenco festival and the meal with the aim of helping them again”, said Sebastián Fernández, president of this association.

The government team attended the event to show their support for this cause. “What we intend to do is to spend a pleasant day in spite of the weather. We are going to share the paella made by the usual group of cooks and there will be music, gifts, a raffle...”, added the councillor for foreigners, Mario Bravo (PP).

Benefits for Adimi

For Adimi, which took advantage of the occasion to set up craft stalls with items made by its users and offer face painting, this is a gesture that they are grateful for. “Financially, it is difficult for the association to undertake such big projects because the budget is high. When Rotary said they were going to organise several fundraising events, we were very happy because we attend to around 400 users and it will affect their quality of life”, said Eva Martín, who works in Adimi’s administration department.
