Education, solidarity and entertainment are the ingredients of the initiative “Looking for Keyla's smile” that the San Francisco de Asís School has launched with the aim of raising funds through a play to help the sister of one of its students. "The idea arose as a result of having a student here at the school, Jada Miguel, who has been with us for three years now, and who has a little sister, Keyla, with cerebral palsy. The whole teaching staff felt the need to help, and so the idea was born", explained the teacher and driving force behind the initiative, Laura Benítez.
Keyla is Jada's nine-year-old sister, and she was born very early. As a result, she had some health problems that caused her cerebral palsy, which is why it is difficult for her to move her arms and legs. She is now in need of a new bathing chair and the centre didn't think twice about it as, on special occasions, it opens the doors of its theatre for such reasons. Her sister Jada, explained that "the chair she has right now is no longer useful because she is outgrowing it, so we are going to give it to another child". Benítez also asserted that "if there is one thing that fills us is that school is always full of values, and education with value is an essential foundation. We opening the stage again for a charitable cause":
It will be the students in the 4th year of primary and the last year of pre-school who will take to the stage on Thursday 20th of March, at 17:30 hours, to perform the play 'El libro de la selva' (The Jungle Book), in the school theatre.
It is very easy to collaborate, the entrance fee is three euros, and if you can't attend, you can also make a donation at the school secretary's office.
