The Tourist Office continues to promote the work of the Mijas Craft Association. On Tuesday 11th it opened its doors to the work of the guitar maker Alberto Martín and the dressmaker Magali Villanueva, works that can be admired throughout the month of March.
Although he built his first guitar in 2000, Martín has been working full-time in this trade since 2007. From his workshop at Camino de Coín, 38, he works for clients all over the world, and now he shows us part of his work. At the inauguration of the exhibition on Tuesday, Alberto Martín explained what he is presenting: "Two guitars, one in the making and the other already finished, as well as elements of what would be a violin and antique instruments, such as Renaissance and Baroque lutes, although in the workshop, I work mainly on Spanish guitar".

For her part, Magali Villanueva presents a sample of her collection of wedding dresses, in which she shows her sober, casual and elegant style. The designer also works for clients from different countries from Mijas, where she develops her work, which we can now see in this cycle of exhibitions, which become a window into the workshop of these artists and their crafts.
"This involves a lot of science, not only in what we know about wood, there is architecture, engineering, mathematics, history. There are so many areas of life involved here that it takes a lifetime to master it, so to speak", Martín said. It takes this luthier two to two and a half months to build a guitar, but such is his success that he has a waiting list of almost a year. Martín also repairs and restores antique instruments, a task that is also in great demand as there are very few professionals in this trade.

The initiative, promoted by the Tourism Department, started in January and until June, each month, will bring us the work of two artisans from Mijas. The councillor responsible for this area, Francisco Jerez (Vox), attended the inauguration and pointed out that "a lot of people come to the Tourist Office here, hundreds of people every day. So, apart from receiving tourist information about the municipality, most of them turn around and see this type of exhibition. They are interested because it is another curiosity added to the municipality".
These exhibitions can be visited from Monday to Friday from nine in the morning to six in the afternoon, and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from ten to two.
