On Sunday, the parade through the streets of the village could take place, but the rain interrupted the prize-giving ceremony for best fancy dress

As planned in the programme of the Festivities Department, Mijas Pueblo celebrated its traditional carnival parade last Sunday, 2nd of March. Once again this year, many neighbours of the village participated in this event which, as always, began with a fun parade through the streets of the village and a lively batukada leading the parade.

The route of parade was shortened a little due to the rain forecast but it did not prevent families, neighbours and visitors from enjoying it in the most central streets of Mijas Pueblo. After the walk, the celebration continued in the Plaza Virgen de la Peña, where the Caritas group once again set up a bar to raise funds.

Once on the stage, the Festivities Commission had a hard time choosing the best fancy dress in the baby, children and adult categories, both individually and in pairs and groups.

In the baby category, the best were Luna Ruiz, who dressed up as a colourful octopus, Thiago Gallardo, as an appetizing grape bunch and, in first place, Pablo Moya, with a funny mousetrap costume.

In the children's individual category, from third to first, the ball machine Lidia García , the little can of sardines, Irene Díaz and the invisible man, Ángel Jaime, were selected.

The children's pairs were the next to go up, receiving their prize the Happy Wild Boars, Selma and Nicolle, in first place; second place for Paola and Cintia, the Pop it, and the Monster Babies, Martín and Lola in third place. As for children's groups, La Granja de Zenón, Las Vaqueras and the Hot Dogs received their prizes. In the adult individual category, the second and third prizes went to some funny desert costumes, while an impressive owl, Juan Manuel Díaz, got the first prize.

The medieval elves won second prize in adult pairs and the first prize went to these two thermomixes. The adult group 'Choque y Rebota' won third prize; the ‘Rodeo que te veo’ won second prize and the first prize went to a group made up of 25 children and adults, under the name of 'La salsa que nos parió'.

Finally, the councillor for Festivities, Silvia Marín, congratulated "all the participants in the parade, whether they won or not, because they were very brave to take to the streets even though there was a chance of rain".

Carnival in La Cala

Remember that La Cala will be celebrating its carnival party on Sunday 9th. From 10:00 hours those who want to take part in the parade can register at the Cultural Centre, from where an hour later a parade with floats and entertainment groups will begin, ending in the park of La Butibamba. There will be activities for children and a stage will be set up where the best fancy dress will be chosen. The bar in this case will be managed by the parish group of Santa Teresa.
