Joy, colour, creativity and a lot of humour in the streets of Las Lagunas with the celebration of the carnival. On Saturday 1st, the celebration of this festivity began in the municipality in a big way: with high participation and elaborate fancy dress. There was also entertainment and activities for children, as well as a parade and the traditional competition.
The drums of Quilombeira Batucada and the trumpets of Vaso Largo Band enlivened the carnival parade in Las Lagunas, which, once again, surprised by the originality of the fancy dress of its participants.
Also, once again, the dance academies invited us to join them in their dances and we even met a group of scarecrows in the middle of the town. Floats with fairy tale characters, giants and big-heads delighted young and old alike, because this party is for everyone.
Members of the Cultural Association Teatro Mijas dressed up as characters from children's fairy tales such as Heidi, her grandfather and her friend Clara and Pipi Calzaslargas.
Animation and fancy dress competition in Andalusia Park
After the parade, the party was held in the Andalucía park, where there were bouncy castles, craft workshops and children's games. Here we spoke to Viviana Martínez, who told us that her children "have already had their faces painted, now they are taking a break because they want to paritcipate in each of the workshops because they love arts and crafts, so I think it's a beautiful, healthy and good activity. I also love the fact that the whole community is united, joyful and happy".
The fancy dress contest was also held here, and once again this year, there was a notable participation in all categories. After all the participants had walked across the stage under the watchful eye of the jury, the attendees enjoyed a performance by Fuerte y Flojo, the winning murga (street band) of this year's carnival in Malaga.
Refreshments and food were provided by the El Juncal Neighbourhood Association, who for the second year running, was in charge of the bar in the park with paella dishes at one euro, barbecue and drinks. Its president, Manuel Fernández, pointed out that "the aim is to raise funds to do new things such as workshops".
Members of the municipal corporation also joined the party. Among them were several councillors from the government team and the opposition. The councillor for Festivities, Silvia Marín (PP), stressed that "the aim is to create a beautiful and fun with the help of the neighbours, who also wear fancy dress. We also celebrate carnival in the park so that families can stay and enjoy the afternoon with games and activities; and of course, we would also like to thank the El Juncal Neighbourhood Association for running the bar during the event".
