The aim is to discover new ways of visual communication that invite reflection and interaction with our environment

The Mijas Town Hall, through its Department of Culture, is organising a landscape intervention workshop given by D.Darko, a self-taught painter originally from Fuengirola and neighbour of Mijas for more than 20 years, who began his career in the field of graffiti in the late 90s inspired by the pieces he saw during his trips to Malaga on the commuter train

This was announced on Monday 3rd by Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), councillor for Culture, who, accompanied by Darko himself, highlighted that: "This workshop is a unique opportunity to learn side by side from one of the most renowned contemporary artists and to do so, moreover, by interacting with the landscape. A very interesting way to explore our most creative side and our way of relating to our surroundings"

Dates

The workshop will begin on the 8th of March and will run until the 25th of May in a total of six sessions from 9 to 14 hours. On the one hand, there will be workshops on urban intervention on March 8th and 22nd and April 5th; and on nature intervention on April 27th and 11th and May 25th. No previous experience is necessary to take part and the workshops are aimed at all ages. Places are limited, so prior registration is required by emailing cultura@mijas.es.

The works will be ephemeral, and will always respect nature, as in this environment they will use materials from the environment itself, such as water, leaves and sand. The aim is also to change the image of the centre of Las Lagunas in order to promote local commerce. According to Maldonado, "in the field of commerce, many initiatives can also be carried out in the street, also to boost businesses and enliven our neighbourhoods".

About D.Darko

D.Darko said, "it's about seeing the city and the landscape in a different light. These workshops are designed for people interested in exploring their creative side and relating to the environment to create an action, whether on the beach, in the city or in the countryside and, in this way, discover new ways of visual communication that invite reflection and interaction with our environment". The dynamic will be based on teamwork and will use materials such as sand, water, stones and ropes, among others. Darko's work is marked by creative ruptures and a constant dialogue between light and shadow, where art and life are connected as an inseparable whole.

His creations

The artist uses recycled materials that he salvages from beaches and abandoned places where he often furtively paints, such as windows and scraps of wood. From 2008 he exhibited his work in an underground way until 2012, when he began to exhibit more regularly in galleries and museums, both individually and in groups: Neurotitan (Berlin), Cini Foundation (Venice), CAC Malaga and Matadero in Madrid are some significant examples. His mural interventions in the Russian Museum Collection and in the Pompidou Centre in Malaga, thanks to the Maf (Malaga Film Festival), stand out.
