Mijas will be full of joy between Saturday 1st of March and Sunday 9th. The Town Hall is already preparing the Carnival, which will take place in the three centres of the municipality, where there will be activities for all ages.
On Saturday 1st of March the party will be in Las Lagunas, where from 10:00 hours those interested in taking part in the parade, which will depart at 11:00 hours from the María Zambrano park to the Andalucía park, will be able to sign up. "Registration will take place in the three centres one hour before the start of the parade, we remind you that you must present your ID card to register and participate in the parade", explained the councillor for Festivities, Silvia Marín (PP), at the presentation of the event on Tuesday 18th.
In Las Lagunas, the a bar will be set up and will be managed by the El Juncal neighbourhood association. "We are going to have a bar with popular prices, we will have a plate of rice for one euro, we will have griddle and barbecue", said the president of the neighbourhood association, Manuel Fernández.
Mijas Pueblo
On Sunday 2nd of March, the Carnival will take place in Mijas Pueblo, in the Plaza Virgen de la Peña. As in the rest of the town, at 10:00 hours those interested can register to take part in the parade, made up of floats and entertainment groups. At 11:00 hours, the parade will depart from the Town Hall to the Plaza Virgen de la Peña, where there will be children's games, a stage to choose the best fancy dress and a bar run by Cáritas.
La Cala
On Sunday 9th of March the party will take place in La Cala de Mijas. From 10:00 hours, those who wish to take part in the parade can register at the Cultural Centre, from where an hour later a parade with floats and entertainment groups will begin, culminating in La Butibamba park. There will be activities for the children and a stage will be set up where the best fancy dress will be chosen. The bar in this case will be managed by the parish group of Santa Teresa. "That way the groups can raise funds for their purposes, they will manage the bars where they will have popular prices and a good menu so families can stay during the carnival party and enjoy it", said Marín.
Competitions
During the party there will be a prize-giving ceremony for the best fancy dress in different categories, as well as entertainment groups and children's activities. "We encourage all Mijeños to join in the carnival, because it's going to be a fun party. We are looking forward to seeing the witty costumes worn by the neighbours", said Silvia Marín (PP), councillor for Festivities.
Carnival for the elderly
On the other hand, the councillor recalled that Carnival parties for the elderly will be held in the three centres. The first party will take place on the 25th of February at the Active Participation Centre in Mijas Pueblo, followed the next day by the Senior Citizens Centre in La Cala.
