Go and look in your fancy dress box because there are only a few days to go before the carnival events kick off in Mijas. To begin with, this week, the councillor for the Senior Citizens, Silvia Marín (PP), presented at a press conference the first of them, the ‘Carnival Party in the Senior Citizen Centres’. An event that is slowly becoming a tradition in our municipality and in which the elderly of the three centres celebrate this festival with their funniest outfits.
“Throughout the year we prepare a full calendar of activities for our seniors and these festivities are further proof. I encourage everyone to participate and enjoy these events that we are preparing with affection and to come looking forward to having a good time”, explained the councillor who also added that “to attend you don’t need to register anywhere”. The first event will take place on Tuesday 25th of February at the ‘Centro de Participación Activa’ (Active Participation Centre) in Mijas Pueblo, the following day, Wednesday 26th will be held at the ‘Centro de Mayores’ (Senior Citizens Centr) in La Cala, and finally, on Thursday 27th, the elderly of Las Lagunas will enjoy the event at their Active Participation Centre. In all three cases, the party will take place from 16:30 to 19:30.
As last year, the elderly are asked to come in fancy dress and in the mood to dance. In addition, live music, fancy dress competitions and snacks are planned for the festivities. The ‘murga ‘(band of street musicians) of the active ageing workshop will also perform in the three senior citizens’ centres, “with which we will be able to appreciate the work that our seniors have been doing over the last few months”, said Marín.
