This Saturday 15th of February will be the first training day of the Creamar Mijas group, which is starting to operate after the signing, last December, of a collaboration agreement between the Mijas Town Hall and the Aula del Mar Foundation. Up to 25 people have joined this new network of volunteers, which was created with the aim of helping to conserve the marine environment and informing the public of the importance of our ecosystem. "This first training meeting will take place at the La Cala Cultural Centre, starting at 11:30 hours. It will provide information on some of the functions to be carried out by the volunteers as well as the first activities that have been planned, one of them on the beach of El Chaparral, dedicated to the kentish plove", said the councillor for the Environment of the Mijas Town Hall, Marco Cortés (PP) on Tuesday.
Creamar will also promote working days on posidonia, a protected species that is very present in the seabed of Mijas. "We must remember that our coastline has a Posidonia meadow covering 1,400 hectares, and it is a plant that brings many benefits to the Mediterranean Sea and also a lot of oxygen, hence the need to conserve it", added the councillor.
Cortés thanked the interest shown by this group of volunteers, a sign that there are people who are aware of and concerned about their natural environment, "the one we have now and the one that those who come after us will have in the future, which is why we are so happy with the participation in the initiative", said the councillor.
In addition to participating in these working days, Creamar volunteers are requested to be available to participate in the necessary actions to address occasional dumping, impacts of climate change, strandings, nesting or custody of protected areas, among others.
