Last January, Mijas proved to be one of the favourite tourist destinations on the Costa del Sol, registering a hotel occupancy rate of 50.98%. This figure, provided by the Costa del Sol Hotel Entrepreneurs Association (Aehcos), represents an increase of 8.98 % compared to the same period last year. The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), expressed her satisfaction with this and made a very positive assessment: "A few days ago I was talking to the director of the Hotel de Mijas and he told me “Mayoress, we are full”. We are working in the right direction".
At the provincial level, the average occupancy rate in January was 60.58%, almost two points higher than in 2024. Most of the visitors who chose Mijas were international tourists, representing around 80 %,, while 20 % came from the different parts of Spain.
Mata stressed that "we are on the path of growth in hotel occupancy and tourist accommodation. Mijas is not only a golf destination, but a place open to a range of possibilities. We are a complete place, with a huge and varied offer of services and leisure of excellent quality".
For his part, the vice-president of Aehcos in Mijas, Juan Miguel Marcos, valued the good results positively: "The occupancy figures for the month of January are higher than those obtained last year. From the sector, we value them positively, especially with a view to breaking with seasonality".

The number of users who visited the tourist offices of the municipality in January was 5,267 people, with a special emphasis on visitors of Spanish, British, Dutch and German origin. Mijas currently has 11 hotels, offering 2,495 beds.
With these figures, Mijas consolidates itself as a first class tourist destination, offering options for all tastes and demonstrating its capacity for growth and adaptation to the new demands of the market.
In February
For the month of February, the association forecasts an estimated occupancy rate in the province of 73.26%, which would exceed the figure of 70% recorded in February 2024. The majority of visitors, around 65 %, are expected to come from the international market, compared to 35 % of national tourists. Mijas has an estimated hotel occupancy rate of 64.07 %, which would represent an increase of more than 7 % compared to 2024. For the month of March 2025, the employers' association forecasts a hotel occupancy rate of 69.62 %.
