This past Tuesday 4th, Mijas was the star of the show at the Martin Carpena Stadium, where Unicaja won its 18th consecutive victory in the Basketball Champions League (BCL), this time beating Rytas Vilnius 92-74 in a great match that was solved in the last quarter. Before and during the game the town was promoted both inside and outside the stadium in front of thousands of basketball fans.

Supporting the team were the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), and the councillor for Sports, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP). The mayoress said that this “match dedicated to Mijas puts us, Mijas, as a reference pint not only in sport, but also as a place to discover, a place to which we invite all those who love sport to also make that introspection, tourism, walk through our municipality”, and also highlighted the presence of players from local basketball clubs, who had the opportunity to attend the event.

The image of Mijas was projected outside the stadium, in the Unicaja fan zone, and also on the different video scoreboards during the match. The mayoress spoke of the virtues of our town to the entire pavilion and highlighted the role of the first Unicaja women’s team, which is sponsored by the Mijas Town Hall. “We are a benchmark in Andalusia, in Spain, Mijas is one of the municipalities that stands out most in our province”, she said, and stressed that “this perfect pairing between Unicaja and Mijas means that we are close to a great team”.

For Unicaja, the support of the Town Hall is essential. “For us Mijas is very important, moreover, we have many fans there, and we are very happy because today the match is dedicated to Mijas, which will have a continuous promotion in all our advertising media with activities in the fan zone and during the game”, said the commercial director of Unicaja, José Carlos Gaspar.

In this sense, between the third and the fourth quarter, the Mijas Union Basket youth team played a short game, in which they showed their skills to the public. Despite the short time they had, the players were delighted to play at the Carpena. “Although it was only a minute and a half, which probably was not enough for the children, they were very excited about the experience”, said the president of Mijas Union Basket, Daniel Moreno.
