Mijas occupies fourth place in the ranking of municipalities with the highest hotel occupancy with 50.98%

The Costa del Sol Hotel Entrepreneurs Association (Aehcos) maintains that the hotel occupancy rate during the month of January 2025 in our province has finally been 60.58%. This is slightly higher than the figure recorded during the same period last year, when occupancy stood at 58.23%. With regard to the visitors' origin, most of them were international tourists, around 80%, compared to 20% coming from different parts of Spain.

"The occupancy figures for the month of January are slightly higher than those obtained in the same month last year, so, from the sector we value this positively. However, we note that the national tourist has not yet been able to recover the level of activity it had before the pandemic, probably as a consequence of the socio-economic situation in our country, given that issues such as the increase in VAT on electricity and fuel are issues that have a direct impact on the economy of families. Fortunately, hotel occupancy forecasts for the coming months are positive and we are confident of exceeding the figures obtained in 2024", explained José Luque, president of Aehcos.

The highest hotel occupancy rate during the month of January was registered in the coastal municipality of Nerja, with 76.91%, followed by Frigiliana-Torrox, with 68%. The third and fourth places in the ranking are occupied by Benalmádena and Mijas with 54.47% and 50.98% respectively.

As for the average gross Impact per guest per night of stay, there has been a significant decrease compared to last year, since in January 2025 the average stood at 88.73 euros, compared to 110.54 euros recorded in January 2024.

Forecasts

For the month of February, Aehcos forecasts an estimated occupancy rate of 73.26%, which would exceed the figure recorded in February 2024, 70%. The majority of visitors, around 65%, are expected to come from the international market, compared to 35% of domestic tourists. The municipality with the highest hotel occupancy foreseen for the current month of February is Frigiliana-Torrox, with 83%, followed by Nerja, with 78.31%, Benalmádena with 67.07% and Mijas with an estimated hotel occupancy forecast of 64.07%.

As for the month of March 2025, the association forecasts a hotel occupancy rate of 75.47%, a figure very similar to that recorded in March 2024, which stood at 75.10%. In the third month of the year, Frigiliana-Torrox is once again in the lead with an estimated occupancy rate of 81%, and Nerja and Benalmádena also repeat in second and third place, with 77.32% and 74.99% occupancy rates, respectively. Mijas would also repeat in fourth place with an estimated occupancy of 69.62%.
