More and more businesses are offering their space for local artists to show their work. This is the case of the Mijas Dental Care clinic which, from now on and on a monthly basis, will host an exhibition and will also do so with a touch of solidarity, as a percentage of the sales of the works will go to the Soroptimist International Costa del Sol association.
The first artist to join the initiative has been Ellen Dijkgraaf, a painter of Dutch origin who, during the month of January, has exhibited a total of 21 canvases full of flowers and natural motifs. "I feel very comfortable here in Andalusia, it is so cheerful and colourful, and I convey this in my work. Besides, I believe that art is good for your wellbeing, it nourishes the soul", she said.

The director of this dental clinic, Giovanna Hurtado, is also in favour of linking health and art, which is why she has offered her establishment to showcase the talent of women artists. As she explained, each month there will be an exhibition with a different theme. February's, by the way, will focus on Valentine's Day. "The idea is to create a meeting point, to get to know the talent of these women, sharing a glass of wine and a pleasant chat about art", she said.
Both the artist and the owner of the shop belong to Soroptimist International Costa del Sol, a collective that will receive 5 percent of the works sold for its solidarity projects, "obviously think it's perfect that these exhibitions have a solidarity purpose and contribute to the projects we have underway for the benefit of women, children and vulnerable groups", highlighted Daphne Theunissen, president of this association, who also stated that "society spends a lot of time working, surrounded by numbers, by money and art is very important to express everything that happens to us, even the hard moments".
This collection can be visited during the clinic's opening hours, from Monday to Friday, mornings and afternoons. The centre is located in Calle Rumanía, very close to El Esparragal park.
