The number of patients attended by the Cudeca Foundation has almost doubled in the last decade, from 1,013 to 1,902, in fact, according to the institution's forecasts, the figure will grow this year by more than 200 patients, so that in 2025 it will exceed 2,100. Therefore, there are 2,100 reasons why the foundation needs our help so that no one is left without the care they need. This is why this non-profit association has launched the #SoyCorazónCudeca campaign.
The Mijas Town Hall shown its support on Friday 10th for the initiative, which aims to raise 125,000 euros to finance palliative care treatments for another 211 people this year. The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), gave her support to the initiative, while highlighting the work that Cudeca's professionals carry out in the municipality: "If Cudeca did not exist, it would have to be invented. It does an incredible job helping hundreds of people in the final phase of their lives, so we are going to do everything we can to ensure that this campaign achieves the best results and helps 211 more patients. We should all have that social responsibility", explained the mayoress, who also reported that in 2024 the foundation assisted 140 Mijeños. Last year, the Town Hall offered 40,000 euros in aid to the organisation, and the mayoress also announced that the municipality will continue to help the organisation.
Until the end of February
For his part, the doctor and care manager at Cudeca, Rafael Gómez, explained that with this campaign they are looking for funding to have one more home care team. "Cudeca's history is one step at a time and this is one more step. What we are looking for is for the people of Mijas to help us finance this equipment to help patients. We have already raised about 70,000 euros and the campaign will be active until the end of February", said Gómez.
The challenge is to reach 125,000 euros, which is the estimated amount needed to subsidise one home help team per year to attend to patients. Cudeca offers personalised care with good symptom control and psychological and social support, both for patients and their families and carers, guaranteeing patients' dignity, respecting their vulnerability and the need for quality, person-centred care.
