The population of Mijas continues to grow, according to data released by the National Statistics Institute in Spain (INE), which shows that Mijas now has a total of 92,211 people registered as of January 1st 2024, which represents a year-on-year growth of 1,448 inhabitants. This makes it the third most important municipality in the province, only surpassed by Malaga city (592,346 people) and Marbella (159,054 people).
Every year the National Statistics Institute compiles a list of the census population data for all Spanish municipalities. This list shows that, in the specific case of Mijas, the population has been growing gradually over the last three years to over 92,000 inhabitants. If the figure is compared with that registered in 2022, the increase is 3,398 more people.
In terms of gender distribution, 45,637 of the total are men and 46,574 are women. “The quality of life we enjoy in Mijas, together with its strategic location and good economic health make it possible for us to consolidate our position as one of the most important municipalities. We are a major attraction and we are going to continue working to remain so”, explained the mayoress of the municipality, Ana Mata (PP).
The province of Malaga is now approaching 1.8 million inhabitants, reaching a total of 1,774,701 inhabitants in the last population census.
