The Town Hall, through the Mayor’s office, has issued a proclamation on pyrotechnics in which it recalls the current regulations on the subject, which prohibit the use of firecrackers and other types of pyrotechnic material as a safety measure to avoid possible fires. It also refers to the prohibition of the sale of this type of product except in duly authorised establishments.

The text expressly states that, according to Royal Decree 989/2015 of October 30th, the use of firecrackers is prohibited in “streets, squares, parks and any public space, except in places specifically authorised for this purpose”. Thus, according to the regulation, the handling of pyrotechnic devices is totally limited, except in the case of municipal authorisation, and in this case, the appropriate precautions must always be taken to avoid “accidents and inconvenience to people on public roads and in public spaces in the municipality”. Similarly, the proclamation calls for civic responsibility and recalls that the use of pyrotechnic products “can cause fear, panic attacks, anxiety and even hearing loss to particularly sensitive population groups, such as children, elderly people and people with autism, as well as animals”.

Fire

It should be remembered that on New Year’s Eve last year there was a forest fire that affected a total of nine hectares in the area of Las Lomas del Flamenco and Los Pedregales. Apparently, it was the use of firecrackers that caused the incident, which forced the evacuation of several neighbours, a situation that the Town Hall does not want to see repeated. “Any security measure we take is necessary if we can avoid damage. Therefore, I appeal to the responsibility of the Mijeños not to use pyrotechnic products, as they pose a risk that we can avoid”, said the mayoress, Ana Mata (PP).
