Four million low consumption LED lights will illuminate some thirty public spaces in the three centres of the municipality

Everything is ready for this Friday, 29th of November, when Mijas will welcome Christmas with the official switching on of the Christmas lights. The event will take place in the Plaza Virgen de la Peña in Mijas, from 18:00 hours and, in addition to the traditional inauguration of the lighting, there will be performances from 17:00 hours by the Municipal Band, the UP dance group of Reme Fernandez and a gospel group.

On this occasion, four million LED lights, half a million more than last year, make up the artistic lighting, which is spread over some thirty streets and squares in the three centres of the municipality.

In Mijas Pueblo, Osunillas, the Plaza de la Constitución and the streets Carril, Compás, Caños, Málaga and San Sebastián, as well as the Avenida de Méjico and the Plaza Virgen de la Peña will be illuminated. As for La Cala de Mijas, the streets Cártama, Marbella, Torremolinos and Torreón will be lit, along with the boulevard and the Paseo Costa del Sol.

In Las Lagunas, the following points will be lit: the avenues Miguel Hernández, Mijas Alta, Mijas, Los Lirios, Margaritas and Andalucía, Camino de Coín, Camino de Campanales, Camino del Albero, the park next to the San Manuel González parish church, Doña Ermita and the roundabouts in the district. The streets that will have Christmas lighting are María Zambrano, Vicente Aleixandre, San Javier, Antonio Machado, Virgen de la Paz, Virgen de la Concepción, La Unión, Río Aguas, Río Las Pasadas, Dinamarca, Geranio and the streets around the Corte Inglés.

Christmas market

On the other hand, from the 29th of November to the 31st of December, the Plaza de la Constitución in Mijas will host a Christmas market with traditional products. It will be open from 11:00 to 19:00 hours. On the 1st of December, the II Christmas Concert for the Elderly will take place in the Manuel España Theatre from 12:00 hours. The concert will be given by the Coro Distrito Sur, admission is free and school material will be collected for people affected by the DANA. In addition to this, on the 11th of December from 17:30 hours the UP Christmas Gala will also take place at the Manuel España Theatre, an event which this year has the name ‘The Magic of Christmas’.

Father Christmas

There will be plenty of activities for the little ones. The Father Christmas village will have workshops on a variety of themes given by elves and other typical Christmas characters. In this village Father Christmas will have his own little house where he will welcome the children who wish to come and greet him and leave their wishes. It will be located in the three centres of the municipality: in the boulevard of La Cala, the Andalusia park of Las Lagunas and the Virgen de la Peña square.

Royal Postman

The Christmas Town with Royal Mailman will be another of the activities planned. There will be free bouncy castles and games for all those attending, as well as an area where the Royal Postman will collect the letters sent by the little ones to the Three Wise Men from the East. The Butibamba Park in La Cala, Fernán Caballero Park in Las Lagunas and the Plaza Virgen de la Peña in Mijas Pueblo have been the places chosen for this Christmas Town.

Pastorals

All of this without forgetting the important role that the 'pastoral' groups will play. The Plaza Virgen de la Peña will host a large marquee with a stage where the different groups from all over Andalusia will perform as part of the 39th edition of the 'Certamen de Pastorales Villa de Mijas'. It will take place on the 22nd of December from 12:00 hours.

Three Kings Parades

The celebration of the Three Wise Men's parades will put the finishing touch to Christmas. It will take place, as tradition dictates, on the 5th of January. The planned itineraries are as follows:
