The Aemet upgrades from orange to red the warning for heavy rainfall in Malaga

  • On Thursday the orange warning is maintained in the Costa del Sol and Guadalhorce, in the rest the warning is yellow
  • The Junta de Andalucía has suspended classes in the province

Up to 150 litres per square metre are expected in 24 hours

The State Meteorological Agency has issued a red warning for heavy rain in the province. It will begin at 10:00 am on Wednesday and will be maintained throughout the day, until 23:59 pm. It will affect the Costa del Sol, Malaga city, the Guadalhorce Valley and Axarquia. The Aemet forecasts that during the day there could be up to 180 litres per square metre, as heavy rainfall is expected, with the probability of locally torrential or even persistent rainfall. The rainfall warnings have been extended to Thursday, with the Costa del Sol and Guadalhorce remaining at orange level, while the rest of the territory will be under a yellow warning. The rains will continue in the province until Friday, although they will be more gentle.

In addition to the torrential rains, from Wednesday 13th there will be a drop in temperatures, with maximum temperatures on the coast of around 18 degrees and minimum temperatures of 15 degrees.

The Aemet advises the population in the affected areas (including other provinces such as Granada, Valencia, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands) to pay attention to information from the official weather forecast channels to find out about possible changes and alerts and to take extreme precautions. In the event of any incident or emergency, they should call 112. In view of this rain forecast, the Junta de Andalucía has suspended classes in the province.
