On Monday 4th, the municipal corporation of the Mijas Town Hall unanimously voted in favour of the municipality joining the institutional agreement for childhood and adolescence. With this proposal by Social Inclusion, the Mijas Town Hall is committed, among other things, to create a technical forum in which children and teenagers can give their opinion on municipal management issues, “also sharing learning and good practices that ensure and promote protection, the good care for children, child participation and the comprehensive and transversal nature of the actions within our entities”, explained the councillor for this department, Melisa Ceballos (PP).
The text also promotes the development of programmes that support the so-called positive parenting of families in the care, education and integral development of children. The agreement also advocates the creation of participation boards for children and teenagers, both at local and provincial level. In this regard, the councillor said that “the government team is already organising a children’s plenary session to be held on the 20th of November in the plenary hall and, with a view to the 2025 budget, we have already planned an item to cover the costs of a diagnostic study of the situation of children and teenagers in Mijas”.
All the groups voted in favour of the initiative. Ciudadanos recalled that, in 2021, it was the orange party the one that promoted in the Junta de Andalucia the Andalusian Childhood and Adolescence Law, “that is why we have obviously voted in favour of this adhesion, because it is a legacy of our party and because we agree with the law”, concluded the councillor of Cs Mijas, Mariló Olmedo.
