Another 200 residents from Mijas village, La Cala and Las Lagunas took part in this second shift of the trip organised by the Senior Citizens department of the Mijas Town Hall. On Friday the second group of retired people and pensioners from Mijas left from the water park for a well-deserved holiday in Melilla. During these days, this group of neighbours have visited a historic town accompanied by councillors and a medical team.
On Friday they had breakfast in Torremolinos and strolled along Calle San Miguel before taking the ferry from the port of Malaga. Balearia is the company that took them to the autonomous city. Once on the ship, the councillor of the government team, Juan José Torres Trella, who has accompanied the seniors in this second shift, explained the first steps of this trip, "an appetiser and an informative talk on the ship to explain the trip plan to everyone".
The councillors who have travelled with them have accompanied them during these 4 days in all the activities, buses, hotels, ferry, and visits. After touring the ship and visiting the cabins, the first deputy mayor, Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson, explained that "the ship is new and the rooms are wonderful, so I am sure that the seniors were going to be very comfortable".
On the second day, after having breakfast at the hotel, the seniors started their tours. The first stop was the bullring. They also strolled through the city centre, and visited the Town Hall, and Melilla La Vieja before enjoying an evening with a gala dinner, dancing, music and a raffle at the hotel.
On their last day and before saying goodbye to the city, the seniors took the opportunity to do some shopping, especially souvenirs for the family. In the evening they had dinner at the hotel and left Melilla to head home. This second group arrived this morning in Mijas, while the third group started their journey. The thrisd shift will be back home on the 31st of October.
