The VI Cheese and Wine Festival kicks off this Friday 25th in the Plaza Virgen de la Peña

  • The initiative will run until Sunday 27th and will feature around twenty stalls from local traders and cheesemakers from the province

The days will be enlivened by various musical performances and dance shows

The councillor for Public Roads of Mijas Town Hall, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), and the councillor for Economic Development and Commerce, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), accompanied by traders, presented this Tuesday 22nd the sixth edition of the Cheese and Wine Festival, which will be held from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th in the Plaza Virgen de la Peña in Mijas Pueblo. On this occasion there will be twenty stalls run by local traders and cheesemakers from different parts of the province.

In this regard, the councillor explained that this event has gradually consolidated its place in the Mijas calendar of activities to the point of becoming essential. "It has become an attraction for both locals and tourists, because it is a great way to publicise the excellence of our local products", said Alarcón, who added that during the event there will be tastings and samplings.

The festival will begin this Friday from 11:00 hours and will run every day until 22:00 hours. In order to make it more attractive to the public, different concerts and dance performances have been programmed. Thus, on the first day at 18:00 hours there will be a performance by the dance group of Remedios Fernández and at 19:30 hours a concert by the group Alejados; on Saturday at 12:00 hours there will be a show by the flamenco company of José Lucena and at 20:30 hours a performance by the group Callejón; and on Sunday 27th at 18:00 hours it will be the turn of the dance group of Víctor Rojas to give way to Maniacos at 19:30 hours.

Local and provincial businesses

The initiative will involve 13 local businesses and seven cheese stands from different parts of the province; in addition, one of the stands will offer sweets and bread from a bakery in Mijas. To spice up this festival, there will be a ham slicer and the stalls dedicated to wine can also offer tapas.

In this regard, the councillor Juan Carlos Maldonado explained that this initiative serves to consolidate the gastronomic and commercial offer of the municipality, while promoting local products. "We see that every year the participation is increasing and that this event has been consolidated as a great gastronomic event at provincial level", said the councillor.

Likewise, José David Moreno of the Radikal Mijas restaurant said that he would be offering a selection of signature wines, including some from local wineries, and a selection of tapas, while Arancha Moreno, also participating in the event, said that she would have a wine list with white, rosé and red wines, plus vermouths and a selection of tapas. "These initiatives are good for a business, it gives us visibility, and for people to come, as it is a reason for them to go out and enjoy our wine, our cheese and the local products”, concluded Moreno.
