The first shift of the senior citizens trip has set sail for Melilla

  • La alcaldesa de Mijas deseó un viaje excelente a los mayores, minutos antes de que el barco empezará a navegar.

Up to 200 pensioners are travelling accompanied by the Senior Citizens Department of the Mijas Town Hall and a medical team

This Monday the first of the groups of senior citizens who are taking part in the trip to Melilla organised by the Mijas Town Hall left Mijas. In total, 200 retirees from the three urban areas of the municipality will enjoy, until Thursday morning,  this small but well deserved getaway.

On Monday morning the Iberobus company picked up the participants who were leaving for Melilla to visit the autonomous city. In Torremolinos they made their first stop before boarding, specifically at the Alúa Sol hotel, "where we had a luxurious breakfast", commented two of the travellers.

Also with them was the councillor for Senior Citizens, Silvia Marín (PP), who accompanies the group on the trip. "We are happy with the organisation of the travel agency Halcón Viajes, which is the one that won the bid and has plenty of experience with our seniors, so in this regard we are calm and all we want is for our seniors to enjoy".

"This trip is going to be a bit different, we have been travelling for many years and we already know many provinces of Andalusia and we thought it was a good opportunity for the people from Mijas to get to know Melilla", said Luis González, Commercial Director of Halcón Viajes.

  • Entre los participantes, encontramos a jubilados que disfrutan por primer año de este viaje.

It will therefore be a different trip, due to the destination chosen and its affinity with Malaga. Another novelty of this trip is that they have never taken a boat to another city before. Balearia is the company that transports the people of Mijas, it is the regular line Malaga-Melilla, a six hours trip accompanied by entertainment and lunch.

The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), wanted to see them off from the port of Malaga. "The elderly people from Mijas will have the opportunity to travel by boat, which perhaps is something new for some of them, and also to know Melilla, seniors seemed really excited and eager. I want to wish them a good trip".

They will spend four days visiting this Spanish city of Melilla located on the shore of the African continent, which offers interesting cultural offerings such as the Sacred Museum, the Aljibes or the Plaza de Armas. They will spend two nights in the hotel and the last night in the ship's cabin before returning home on Thursday morning.

For the time being, there is good weather, good atmosphere and the desire to have a good time on this first trip. A team of Mijas Comunicación accompanies them to inform you about the trip.
