The Mijas Local Police celebrated on Thursday 17th at the Manuel España Theatre the day of its patron saint, the feast of the archangels San Gabriel, San Rafael and San Miguel, which is commemorated every September 29th. The event was a tribute to their daily work, always aimed at protecting and serving our community, a task that was highlighted by the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), who said: “They are always there, looking out for any incident that may occur in our municipality and trying to ensure that these incidents remain small and do not go any further”.
Mijas has a police force of 150 officers, who, in coordination with the Civil Guard and other State Forces, work to increase security. “We should be very proud of all of them. They work in an exemplary manner. They are a reference not only in the province, but also at national level”, said the councillor for Local Police in Mijas, Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson (Vox).
This year, the number of arrests has increased, as well as the number of regulatory penalties and other operations, making the Mijas police force more efficient. Its chief intendant, Juan Manuel Rosas, wanted to remember other colleagues on this day. During the ceremony, four officers were awarded the Police Merit Cross with blue badge, an insignia that rewards officers who have been in service for 30 years without being sanctioned. A medal with red badge was also awarded to a police officer for an “impeccable performance” in an incident.
Thirty officers were also congratulated for outstanding and relevant actions, congratulations that extended beyond the headquarters, as a neighbour also received a special mention. In addition, the video ‘30 años bajo tu manto, siempre, a tu servicio’ (30 years under your mantle, always at your service), produced by Mijas Comunicación, was screened, highlighting their tradition of carrying the Virgen de la Peña on their shoulders.
