In a public and transparent way, the Mijas Town Hall drew lots this Tuesday for the 1,600 places reserved for the Senior Citizens Trip 2024. For the first time in the history of the municipality, the Mijas Town Hall has had to use this method, as a total of 1,957 applications were received, of which 1,701 people met the requirements, for the 1,600 places offered.
In this regard, the councillor of the department, Silvia Marín (PP), explained that "despite having increased the number of places this year, including the extra shift last year, we have received 300 more applications, and this is due to the fact that the number of pensioners in Mijas continues to grow, in fact, in the last year we have processed 600 new pensioner cards". Marín also assured that "the government team wants to maintain the trips for our seniors, because we see it as a necessity for them, but there will come a time when we have to establish new ways of offering this activity, in order to respond to all applicants".
The selection was carried out in the plenary hall of the Town Hall using the traditional ball system. To find out if they have been selected, the seniors will have to check the last four numbers of the application form they submitted by registration, "therefore, from the Senior Citizens department we will start counting from the request number 2004048540 until the end of the list, and then we will start again at the beginning of the list to continue allocating the remaining places", said Mercedes Gálvez, a technician in the Senior Citizens department.
The complete and definitive list of the beneficiaries for each trip can be checked on the Mijas Town Hall website, where there will also be information on the dates to pay for the first trips to Melilla. The councillor Silvia Marín took the opportunity to announce another of the novelties of this trip, "normally there is one shift for the residents of La Cala and Mijas Pueblo, and another two for Las Lagunas, but this year we wanted to mix elderly from the three urban centres, so that they can socialise with each other and make new friends, something that we think will be important and very positive for them".
For Melilla there are three shifts. The first will take place from the 21st to the 24th of October, the second from the 25th to the 28th and the third from the 28th to the 31st.
