Since last Friday, 4th of October, the Mijas Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) has been hosting an exhibition in which Salvador Dalí show Dante Alighieri's Purgatorio. With a total of 33 works, the museum thus closes the cycle it began on the ‘Divine Comedy’. As the director of the CAC Mijas, Francisco Javier Fructuoso, recalled, this exhibition "is the third and last one, the one we were missing. The other two, Inferno and Paradiso, were already on display at the centre a few years ago. It is a very difficult collection to obtain, which is why they have negotiated to have it for six months instead of three".

Thus, Mijeños and tourists will be able to enjoy one of the most important projects of the painter Salvador Dalí, as he himself stated in his day. Mario Bravo (PP), who attended the inauguration along with other councillors, invited "everyone to come and participate in this cultural activity, where we also have a permanent exhibition of all of Picasso's ceramics and another part of the exhibition dedicated to Dalí".

In 1965, halfway through his life, on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri's death, Dalí was commissioned by the Italian government to illustrate the three cantos that make up the ‘Divine Comedy’. 33 works for each one, plus one for the introduction, making a hundred scenes of a project that united two geniuses and that can now be enjoyed in our town.
