The work has allowed the pavement to be remodelled, accessibility to be improved and the street lights to be replaced with energy saving ones

The Mijas Town Hall, through the Operational Services area, continues with its plan to improve the pavements throughout the municipality. In the Avenida de La Sierrezuela, trees are being planted while the remodelling of the entire pavement and some finishing touches are being completed. This project has been carried out in two phases and has involved a total municipal investment of 203,000 euros.

The work, as the councillor for Operational Services, Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP), explained, "has focused on remodelling the pavement, as well as improving accessibility elements, eliminating architectural barriers, adapting the slope of the pedestrian crossing and implementing directional tactile paving for the blind. At the same time, the slopes of the ramps have been corrected to facilitate the transit of people with reduced mobility".

  • La actuación ha permitido remodelar el pavimento, mejorar la accesibilidad y cambiar las luminarias por luces de bajo consumo.

Before the summer, a first phase covering a surface area of 800 square metres was carried out with an investment of 123,000 euros. Now, the second phase has been carried out on a surface area of 600 square metres and 150 linear metres of the avenue. In addition, new trees are being planted, while the previous ones have been transplanted to another plot. At the same time, a 150-metre-long irrigation channel has been installed.

The project has also included the replacement of street lamps in the area with seven low-consumption luminaires which, "as well as reducing electricity consumption, help the environment by reducing gas emissions", said the councillor.

Neighbourhood request

The improvement of this road "is a demand from the neighbours to which we have responded. In addition, it so happens that this street had not been remodelled for 25 years, so now it has been substantially improved", Teruel indicated.

Once this work has been completed, the intention is to improve the pavement of Calle Río Guadiana by extending the existing one and eliminating architectural barriers. The planned investment for this action is 50,000 euros plus VAT.
