Saturday was a special day for the Club Atletismo Mijas, which celebrated its 40th birthday. It was a day full of meetings, memories, and coexistence between different generations that make up a big family.

After a rainy morning, athletes and their families arrived at the track at around one o'clock in the afternoon. During the day they remembered and shared memories thanks to the exhibition of photos and cuttings illustrating moments from the first years of the club. Former teammates met again, after many years, on the track, a place where they have spent a lot of time together. For some of them, athletics has marked their lives, as it is the case of Cecilia Aguilera, "I started practising this sport in 1985, when she was 9 years old, athletics is my life, where I have met my friends and my husband". 

A group of athletes handed out green T-shirts, representing the colour of the organisation and with the logo of the 40th anniversary.

The Mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata, together with the Councillor for Sports, Mari Francis Alarcón and the Councillor for Finance, Mario Bravo, accompanied the representatives of the club and the Association Amigos del Atletismo de Mijas, the group that organised this day with special affection. For her part, the mayoress congratulated and thanked the pioneers of the Mijas Athletics Club, and encouraged them to "continue for another 40 years". 

The event continued with a meal and was followed by a ceremony in which different representatives who are key figures in this sport participated, among them the coaches of the club and the councillor for sports. In addition, Mijas Comunicacion made a video that compiles these 40 years of the club and that was shown at the event. 

Finally, in a symbolic way, they went around the court to reinforce the bond of this family and as in any birthday, a group photo and the wish to continue celebrating many more.
