The start of the 2024-2025 academic year has been staggered and without any incidents

The holidays are over, the school year begins. At 11.45, punctually, the students of the first and second year of Secondary Education were the first to enter the secondary schools on Monday, where they were welcomed by the teachers who, group by group, told them which class they should go to. The councillor for Education of the Mijas Town Hall, Melisa Ceballos (PP), visited several schools to see how the start of the school year was going. "The beginning of the school year is going well so far, without any incidents. There are more than 5,000 students in Mijas, including those in Las Lagunas, La Cala and Mijas Pueblo", explained the councillor for Education.

In Las Lagunas, the new building of the IES Ana Carmona ‘Veleta’, which will have 610 students this year, has come into operation.

In one of them, the IES Las Lagunas, for example, there are 1,090 students enrolled so far, who will be attended by about 80 teachers. "They seemed very eager and with high expectations, as for the staff, we are very excited and working hard to make sure that everything goes well, that everything is as flexible and easy as possible for all the students, that they are in the best conditions and that the course runs smoothly", said the principal, Adela Camacho, at the entrance to the school.

One of the main novelties at the start of the 2024-2025 academic year in secondary education is the opening of the Ana Carmona ‘Veleta’ Secondary School building in Las Lagunas, which on Monday opened its doors to its 610 students. With the exception of the first year students, the rest of the children have been studying, in previous years, at the CIEP Indira Gandhi facilities. "At IES Ana Carmona 'Veleta' the classes have started normally within the possibilities found. There is a part that is closed, the library and the cafeteria, but according to the construction company, the rest of the work will be finished by the 30th of November", concluded the councillor for Education.
