  • The Hotel Entrepreneurs Association points out that during July and August records were two points higher than in 2023 on the Costa del Sol
  • Mijas, en el top 3 de los municipios de la Costa del Sol con mayor ocupación hotelera.

According to Aehcos, our town has been one of the six municipalities of the region that has exceeded 90%

The Costa del Sol Hotel Entrepreneurs Association (Aehcos) in its latest report states that hotel occupancy during the month of August was almost 91%, two points higher than in August 2023. They also point out that Mijas, with 94.19%, is among the six municipalities in the province with the best records, after Benalmádena (97.64%) and Fuengirola (95.22%). Torremolinos (93.76%), Marbella (92.55%) and Málaga city (92.48%) also exceed 90% occupancy. In the case of Mijas, the forecast for August was 80%, a figure that has been exceeded by almost 15 points. These are good figures that corroborate that Mijas is a priority destination and very much in demand. We are a complete destination, with a huge and varied range of services and leisure activities of excellent quality, which is the result of the hard work carried out by everyone involved. It’s been a great summer”, said the mayoress of the municipality, Ana Mata (PP).

On the other hand, the percentage of international tourists stands out, 60%, compared to the percentage of national tourists (40%). However, the average Gross Impact per Hosted Client, 'Impacto Bruto Medio por Cliente Alojado', (IBCA), has decreased slightly by almost ten euros, being 135.76 euros in August 2024, compared to 143.51 euros in the same month of 2023.

"It has been a good month for the entire hotel sector in Malaga with up to six municipalities that have exceeded 90% occupancy", said José Luque, president of Aehcos, who also called for prudence towards the end of the summer season. "Last minute bookings and the offers promoted by the hotel industry have helped to favour the good figures obtained", added Luque.

Forecasts

Regarding the forecast for the coming months, Aehcos is cautious, estimating an occupancy rate of 88.74% for September, a figure slightly higher than last year (86.75%), while for October it expects a drop of just over one point, from 83.71% in October 2023 to 82.34% in October 2024.
