Most of the children were very happy to start a new year at the Gloria Fuertes Nursery School. For many of them, Monday was their first experience at school. Some entered at a very early age, just a few months old, while others were already one or two years old. There are 213 children who have started a new stage “full of enthusiasm”, said the director of this centre, Alicia Castillo, “because every year, we come renewed with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement, eager to start all over again, but also a bit nervous, always”. 

The Europa Nursery School (La Cala) has started the 2024/2025 school year with 136 children; the Limonar (La Cala), with 71; and the Mijas Pueblo, with 34, making a total of more than 450 children who have started this stage of education in the municipality. 

This week and next week, children in the three stages: 0 to 1 year old, 1 to 2 and 2 to 3, can take advantage of an adaptation timetable to facilitate the start of the school year and the farewell with their parents. 

“There is a bit of everything, as it should happen on the first day. Children who are very happy to go back to school, others who find it a bit difficult and others who are starting for the first time, so we have to understand that everything is new for them”. She also added that “for parents, it is even more difficult than for children”, and took the opportunity to tell them that “it is normal, it is an adaptation period and just in a few weeks everything will go smoothly”. 

Sensory learning

So, from the 16th of September, they will all be ready to face the normal timetable of this school, which is open from seven in the morning to five in the afternoon. This year, they say, they will develop an educational project based on sensory learning. “We will work a lot based on direct experience, with things that bring them closer to their daily world, through the manipulation of objects, because that is how they learn the most”,  explained the director.

This centre still has places available in all three stages, all with access to municipal subsidies, so if you want to enrol your children in the nursery school, you still have time. Happy school year!
