On Friday 16th, the Siete Caños square was the venue for the presentation of the poster for the Mijas Pueblo fair, which will be held from the 4th to the 9th of September. That is what the neighbours asked for and what the Department of Fiestas and Traditions did on this occasion, to recover the tradition of starting the countdown to the fair during the festivities of the Barrio Santana neighbourhood.

During the event, the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), stressed the importance of recovering "our customs, traditions and our history" and for young people to maintain them, giving as an example the designer of the poster, Juan José Marín, who thanked the Department of Festivities and Traditions for trusting him to illustrate the fair. As Juan José Marín explained “I have tried to capture the essence of what we are, of the things that characterise the town".

After the speeches and without further ado, the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata, together with the councillor for Festivities and Traditions, Silvia Marín (PP), and the poster designer, Juan José Marín, unveiled the artwork in front of a packed square.

The event was attended by members of the PP, Vox and the PSOE municipal groups, local residents, and tourists, and was enlivened by the UP dance groups led by the teacher Remedios Fernández. As well as the poster, those present were able to get their hands on the fair book, which includes the activities planned  for the Mijas Fair 2024.

The councillor for Festivities and Traditions, Silvia Marín, explained that, together with the Junta de Festejos, "we have organised a programme so that everyone can enjoy the fair, from the youngest to the oldest".

The fair will begin on the 4th of September with the switching on of the artistic lighting and the election of the king and queen and will continue on the 5th with the celebratory dinner for the elderly. There will be musical performances during the day fair, as well as free concerts at night in the municipal booth, including Marta Santos, Melody and Rasel, among others.
