The entity presented on Wednesday 14th the new kits and for the third time the women’s first team will wear the name of Mijas in the centre of its jersey

Unicaja Basketball officially presented on Wednesday 14th of August, to the authorities, sponsors and media, the new kits that its teams will be wearing this season 2024-2025. Once again this year, the women’s first team will wear the name of Mijas in the centre of its jersey, as the player Carmen Ruiz showed at the official presentation. The event took place after midday at the Trocadero Casa Botes (Málaga), and was attended by the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), and the councillor for Sports, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP).

Mata highlighted the importance of supporting sport, and “we also have a player from Mijas, Marta Ortega, the team captain of the Unicaja Basketball team”, she said. The mayoress of Mijas, stressed that this is “a sign of support that the Town Hall has been giving for three years, as we have renewed this agreement for another year, because having the name of Unicaja and Mijas together is a very significant sign for us in terms of visibility. Mijas is wherever Unicaja is and plays and also in women’s sport”. For her part, the Unicaja Female player, Carmen Ruiz, stressed that “as a Malaga native I am very proud and I am very happy to see that the Mijas Town Hall supports and trusts women’s basketball and Unicaja. For me it is a dream that I am living and it is thanks to Mijas that we can do it, we are very grateful”.

The union between Unicaja Femenino and Mijas has become one of the most fruitful in women’s basketball. Since the support for women’s basketball began in the 2022-23 academic year, the team has had great results, achieving promotion from Liga Femenina 2 to Liga Femenina Challenge in its first year and comfortably staying in the silver category of women’s basketball last season.

For this season they have a very clear objective: “Based on the team and the signings we have made, I think it will be a good year to make an impact, settle in the category and who knows, to even be promoted”, said the player, while the president of the club, Antonio Jesús López Nieto, added that “we have an exciting team this year, we hope to be in the playoffs with the women’s team, we have reinforced the structure to take another step forward. Last year the objective was to stay in the category and we achieved it comfortably and this year we hope to be, at least, in the playoffs”.

These achievements of Unicaja Mijas have allowed the municipality’s commitment to women’s basketball to be very visible, and also for the town to successfully host matches of the competition in the Juan Roa de Osunillas Sports Centre. “We are very happy and we hope that we can celebrate many victories during the entire history of Unicaja Femenino”, concluded Mata.

The new design

The new Unicaja Basketball kit features the colours of the city of Malaga in vertical green and purple stripes, “combining tradition and innovation”, according to the club. This striped design appears both on the front of the shirt and on the back. Another novelty is that the club crest is not sublimated or printed, it is incorporated with heat-sealed silicone. In addition, the jersey is identified on the inside collar with ‘Unicaja Basketball-Season 2024/25’ and on the upper back of the Liga Endesa jersey is the Andalusian flag. The clothing worn by the players of all categories is made of polyester with elastane.
