The Mijas Town Hall has issued a municipal proclamation which establishes this indication when there are orange or red warnings for high temperatures

The Mijas Town Hall has issued a municipal notice to reduce the services of donkey taxis and horse-drawn carriages in order to protect the health and wellbeing of both the drivers and mule drivers and the animals themselves.

Taking into account the ordinance that regulates this service, published in February 2012 in the BOP, and which states that in case of public interest the timetables may be modified, the notice establishes that in situations of orange or red warning issued by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) they should not provide the service. When the warning is yellow, the service will not be operational between 14:00 and 18:00 hours.

In this regard, the councillor for Animal Welfare, Marco Cortés (PP) has defended the goodness of the bando, describing it as very necessary for both workers in the sector and for the animals themselves: "The situation we are going through with constant alerts for high temperatures made the existence of this notice, on which the council has been working for some time, very necessary. Above all, health must come first, and the aim of this regulation is to guarantee the wellbeing of both muleteers and drivers as well as the animals".

In addition, the notice includes a series of recommendations contained in the 'Guide to Good Practices for the welfare of horses in public service carriages', published by the General Council of the Spanish College of Veterinarians, which offers advice on resting, equipment, stables and animal care.

This notice is already published on the municipal notice board, therefore, it is already in force and will remain so until further notice.
