"Two artists in search of a dream...Ethiopia" is the title of the exhibition, promoted by the Asociación Mujeres Mijtas with the collaboration of the Culture

Last Friday, 2nd of August, the painting exhibition entitled "Two artists in search of a dream...Ethiopia" was inaugurated in the Las Lagunas Cultural Centre. The exhibition, organised by the Asociación Sociocultural de Mujeres Mijitas and the Department of Culture, brings together a total of 170 paintings, including oil and watercolours, and has been created with the aim of helping the NGO Tsehay, founded by the young Myriam Ostos Peña, who has been in Ethiopia for 7 years.

Myriam's grandmother, Amparo Osuna, is one of the artists exhibiting alongside Carmina Méndez. "My granddaughter went to Ethiopia as a volunteer at the age of 22 and fell in love with a very poor village. Now she is feeding 140 children and she finally has a piece of land where she has been able to build a school. She is doing a great job but she needs funds to continue", Amparo explained.

Myriam's mother said that her daughter has been involved in cooperation projects with different organisations since she was 15 years old and that solidarity is her lifestyle. "She wanted to do something else, she wanted to make people independent, she saw cooperation from a different point of view and decided to set up an NGO. She told me she wanted to go to Ethiopia and she went. It's hard to deal with, but when you see her happy, you support her", commented Miriam Peña.

The Asociación Sociocultural de Mujeres Mijitas did not hesitate to support Myriam's work because "we think it is a very interesting project, she is a girl with roots in Mijas and, of course, when we heard about the beautiful project she is carrying out, we wanted to support her and give her a boost", said Juana Bueno, president of the Asociación Sociocultural de Mujeres Mijitas.

Institutional support has also been essential to carry out the exhibition. In this regard, the Mijas councillor for Culture, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), pointed out that "they asked us for an exhibition room available for the month of August and we made the Las Lagunas Cultural Centre available to the association to exhibit this work and thus raise funds". The councillor also encouraged "the people from Mijas to come and see the work, which will be on display until the 5th of September, and if they can, to collaborate, because we know that there are many supportive people in Mijas, and we can all contribute to this beautiful cause".
