And added that Mijas has an unrivalled destination, which offers a unique experience and awakens all the senses”, said the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP).
The mayoress also stressed that, since the beginning of the year, Mijas has registered very positive occupancy rates, even higher than in 2023, "and the forecasts for the month of August also shows a positive trend, because almost 80 percent occupancy is expected, although the figure could increase with last minute bookings and national tourists, who tend to take their holidays during the eighth month of the year".

International tourism continues to be very for the province in July, occupying 70% of the total, while national tourist represent the remaining 30%. However, there has been a certain slowdown in bookings during the end of July and for the month of August caused by the domestic market.
The forecasts for the coming months are estimated to be uncertain with the slowdown of the domestic market bookings. The Hotel Entrepreneurs Association expects an 85.39% occupation rate for August. This figure is still slightly below that obtained in August 2023 (88.44%) but "last minute bookings and the expected boost of the domestic market, which historically books stays during the eighth month of the year, must be taken into account", said from Aehcos Executive Committe.
The destinations with the highest occupancy in August would be: Benalmadena (97.59%), Torremolinos (90.36%), Frigiliana-Torrox (87.55%) and Malaga Capital (86.46%). Finally, Aehcos has released its forecasts for September for which it expects hotel occupancy to reach, for the moment, 82.82%
