The Ukrainian artist Yul Hanchas, now settled on the Costa del Sol, presents a colourful exhibition about bulls and bullfighters in paintings, tapestries and decorated guitars, a total of 18 works made with his own technique, which he calls volumetric, and can be seen in the Folks Museum in Mijas Village until the 19th of August.
His large-format, colourful and attractive works fill the exhibition room at the Folks Museum with art and offer us his particular vision of the Spanish tradition related to bullfighting and bullfighters. "I am in love with this Spanish tradition, with the bullfighters’ costumes. I love them and I wanted to put them on canvas and show everyone that they can be as beautiful as the real ones. Bullfighting also attracts my attention. Although their fate is a pity, I wanted to treat this topic with humour".
Yul came to Spain in 2011 and settled on the Costa del Sol with his family. He has exhibited 25 times in 9 years and has participated in another 40 group exhibitions. The exhibition presents a total of 10 paintings, 4 tapestries and 4 decorated guitars. His technique is varied, eclectic and very colourful, he calls it volumetric and consists of creating textures and volume using techniques and materials such as acrylic, minerals, pearls, coral and wood.
According to the Councillor for Culture, Juan Carlos Maldonado, "the department provides these spaces so that the artists have an opportunity to show their work" and added that this exhibition "is very genuine, very peculiar and above all very authentic".
This is the fourth exhibition that Hanchas presents in Mijas. As a curiosity, last week he finished the tapestry dedicated to the European Championship where he presents a white Andalusian village with the numbers and names of the athletes.
You can visit the exhibition until the 19th of August, from 10 to 14 hours and from 17 to 21 hours.
