Mijas offers a new opportunity to help those who need it the most. We will be able to do so on the 2nd of August at the opening of the painting exhibition ‘Two veteran artists in search of a dream... Ethiopia’, which will be held at the Cultural Centre in Las Lagunas in aid of the NGO Tsehay, which works in the African country supporting the most vulnerable.
The exhibition is organised by the Sociocultural Association Mujeres Mijitas, a group that is supported by the Department for Culture of Mijas Town Hall. This is the second time that the group has collaborated with the NGO, in the past they contributed with more than 600 euros raised in a solidarity activity. The president of the group, Juana Bueno, said during the presentation of the exhibition's poster that "with this exhibition our aim is to exceed that amount so that they can continue to carry out their projects for education, food and health. From here we also want to reaffirm our commitment to collaborate with this association".
The NGO, founded by Myriam Ostos Peña, a young woman from Seville who was born in Mijas, aims to support children and women through educational, training and empowerment projects. For this exhibition, Myriam has relied on the paintings of Carmina Méndez and her grandmother Amparo Osuna Ostos, who did not want to miss the presentation. "This exhibition is very special because I am doing it with a friend of mine, with Carmina. We have gathered all our paintings to make this event. There are a lot of them, 170 paintings. I hope that the people in Mijas will respond because there is something for every taste and budget", said Osuna Ostos.
For his part, the councillor for Culture, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), stressed that "I hope that many people will attend the exhibition and, above all, that the aim, which is to raise funds for such a magnificent purpose, will be achieved. The Town Hall will be supporting you to achieve this".
The exhibition will be inaugurated on the 2nd of August, at 19:00 hours, at the Cultural Centre in Las Lagunas. The paintings will remain on display until September 5th.
