Municipal car parks incorporate a function to facilitate payment by mobile phone

  • Subscribers will continue with their usual payment system
  • El concejal de Infraestructuras y Obras, Juan José Torres Trella, anunció la nueva función |

Users will be able to book and pay for parking spaces directly from their devices and make transactions using GooglePay, ApplePay and Bizum

The Mijas Town Hall, through the company Eysa Group, which manages sustainable mobility, has implemented an innovative access and payment technology for the four car parks in the municipality: Virgen de la Peña, Candelaria, Las Lagunas Branch Office and El Juncal, which have a total of 1,280 spaces.

In this way, users who park there for a few hours will be able to enjoy a more convenient and efficient experience, being able to make reservations and pay for their stay directly from their mobile devices. On the other hand, according to the councillor for Infrastructures, Juan José Torres (PP), subscribers will continue with their usual method.

The new functionality of this application by Grupo Eysa, called Mowiz, will allow users to make transactions using the most advanced and secure payment methods: GooglePay, ApplePay and Bizum. According to the local government, this guarantees not only fast and easy payments, but also "safety in each transaction, responding to the growing demand for digital payment solutions from users".

Thus, the Town Hall reinforces its commitment to provide these municipal car parks with the most advanced technology, that is to say, free parking space tracking, number plate reading and facilitating all available payment methods, in order to increase the efficiency of the resources available and to maintain the rates, offering the first hour for free and the following nine hours for one euro.

As the councillor stated, "the Mijas Town Hall wants to add a distinctive element to these municipal facilities. The aim is to keep solving parking problems in the most sought-after areas using the most advanced technologies applied to parking and also to promote commercial activity to help local businesses".

Payment operations

During 2023 the Mijas municipal car parks registered more than 300,000 operations, in which cash payment was the predominant method of payment, followed by debit or credit cards. Despite this, forecasts suggest that the percentage of cash transactions will decrease over the next few years, largely influenced by the use of mobile applications such as the recently incorporated one.
