The councillor for Beaches, Daniel Gómez, visited El Bombo beach on Tuesday to check on the damage suffered after the recent storms which lashed the municipality. There he announced that the part of the Coastal Path that runs along this point will remain closed until the necessary sand has been brought in and safety is guaranteed.
This area, as the councillor explained, is always "extremely affected" by storms, and currently the beach has a two-metre sinkhole which, as well as impeding its use, has also left sewage systems in the open air. "The decision to close some 200 metres of the path is absolutely for safety reasons and, of course, we ask the public to be patient and to respect the signposts because going over them is dangerous", he added.
In fact, it is important to remember that last March the same area received a sand contribution but, given the strength of the storm that has lashed the area in the last few days, it has been necessary to repeat the action.
Gómez also reported that he is in contact with the General Directorate for the Coast and the Sea, depending on the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, to carry out the necessary sand contributions. The work will begin tomorrow, Wednesday 17th of July, from 23:00 hours until 8:00 in the morning, if the weather permits. In anticipation, the Town Hall had already made a stockpile of sand at the mouth of the stream in La Cala, so the councillor assured that they are prepared to start the intervention as soon and appropriately as possible.
Next week there is a meeting scheduled with the General Directorate of the Coast to address the situation of the Mijas coastline. "El Bombo is a great example of the situation of our coastline due to the lack of a comprehensive beach stabilisation plan, as the mayoress, Ana Mata, always insists", concluded the councillor.
