The town hall improves accessibility on the streets Montejaque and Arriate in La Cala

  • Tanto las calles Montejaque como Arriate dan acceso a la playa de La Cala.

Both streets are now pedestrianised

The Mijas Town Hall, through the Operational Services Department, has carried out the remodelling of the streets Montejaque and Arriate. These are two streets located in La Cala which have become pedestrianised with the aim of improving accessibility in the area.

The councillor responsible for the area, Daniel Gómez Teruel, indicated that each of the streets has a surface area of 400 square metres, which have been completely repaired. “They are streets very close to the beach that had architectural barriers, which complicated the circulation of people with reduced mobility. In view of this, and once they had been analysed, we believed that the best thing to do was to make them pedestrianised, which is what we have done. Therefore, we are not only improving the aesthetics of this part of Mijas, but also mobility”, he explained.

The project involved the complete renovation of the paving, as well as the adaptation of the stairs and the correction of the ramp leading to the beach to comply with current accessibility regulations, as it now has an 8% slope. At the entrance there are bollards to prevent the passage of vehicles that could hinder movement. In addition, the new lampposts installed have low-consumption luminaires to reduce electricity consumption and gas emissions.

  • La mejora de estos dos viales se ha realizado a lo largo de un mes y medio.

On the other hand, new plants and trees adapted to the climatic conditions of the area have been placed, maintaining the older specimens. “Given the drought we are suffering, we have looked for plants that require little water. In addition, we have asked Endesa to relocate an electrical panel on the ramp so that two people can pass at the same time”, said the councillor.

The execution time for these actions has been one and a half months with a total investment of 93,000 euros plus VAT. It is worth remembering that last April the renovation works on a section of the boulevard in La Cala and Torrox street were completed, all with a budget of 43,000 euros.
