These vehicles have firefighting equipment, so that they can support the fire brigade when necessary

Since Thursday 4th, Mijas Civil Protection has two fully equipped vehicles to carry out the various assistances that are within its competence. These two vehicles, Toyota Hilux, already belonged to the Civil Protection fleet, but, among other shortcomings, did not have the back closed. The Town Hall has invested almost 20,000 euros in covering the pick up part and, not only that, the interior has also been equipped with essential elements for an emergency vehicle, such as: fire extinguishers, first aid kits, professional flashlights, beacon tapes, signs to regulate traffic, circumstantial signaling, glass breaker and belt cutter tools, rescue winches or water pumps, among others.

“What has been done is to equipment them with fire extinguishing material, to support firefighters in cases where necessary, as well as, lights and the lid of the box to carry things, so they do not fly out and are protected”, said the mayor of Civil Protection, Francisco Jerez.

The councillor of the department, who was accompanied by the coordinator of the local group, David Gutiérrez, pointed out that it is at this time of the year when Civil Protection has more commitments to the city due, among other factors, to the increase of the population and the risk of fire. The objective, Jerez assured, is that they have the necessary training and means to carry out their work. “What we are trying to do is to improve the equipment so that they can work better and in better conditions”, concluded the councillor.

From the department, they announced that the telecommunications system of the local group of Civil Protection Mijas is to be improved.
