The registered participants, 170 photographers in total, reaffirmed the interest that this initiative, organised by the Cultural Department of Mijas Town Hall together with the Photographic Association Nuevo Enfoque, generates for the fifteenth edition.
Shortly before ten o'clock in the morning, the participants began to arrive at the Folks Museum to formalise their registration and to get to know the six themes proposed by the organisation to be photographed: motion, lines and curves, the charm of simplicity (minimalism), the colour blue (sky blue, sea blue...), details of the traditional architecture of Mijas Pueblo and a free theme to let the creativity of each participant run wild. Juan Carlos Maldonado, Councillor for Culture (PMP) went to the Folks Museum and stressed that the marathon "gives an opportunity not only to photography lovers to participate, but also to highlight the different places in our municipality, in Mijas Pueblo".
The event, in memory of the Mijas photographer Jesús Jaime Mota, renowned photographer and founder of the Fotoart gallery, is on the calendar of many photographers, as is the case of David Conejo, who has participated on other occasions: "Last year I was one of the three winners and this year to repeat, but now the challenge is more difficult". For Milagros it was the first time, "I'm starting with photography and it's an opportunity to take photos with a specific motif and learn things about it". Her friend, Teo Robles, did repeat and commented that "it's a very good occasion and I love it, I missed it already".
Professionals and amateurs from different parts of the province took part, some belonging to photography associations, some came with their families, others with friends and others on their own. All with the same enthusiasm, to enjoy a day with photography as an excuse. Nuria Herreros, another participant who came from Marbella, also highlighted the wonderful setting for this event: "It's a beautiful town, it's beautiful for photography. It's a great place to enjoy and spend the day here, with company, with all my colleagues, and enjoying the beautiful weather and the beauty of the town".
The participants could visit the bullring, the Ethnological Historical Museum, the Carromato de Max and the exhibition that the Asociación Nuevo Enfoque currently has in the Folks Museum for free.
Winning photographs
After taking the photographs, each participant will have until the 3rd of July to send a maximum of two photographs per theme, although it is not obligatory to send photographs for each theme. The jury's decision, made up of professional photographers and members of photographic collectives and associations, will be announced on the 19th of July at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall assembly hall. There will be 200 photographs that will be included in a promotional video, 30 of them will be displayed in the Exhibition Hall of the Patio de las Fuentes of the Town Hall and, finally, three of them will be awarded different prizes: a photographic work by Jesús Jaime from the Foto Arte gallery, a work by the Nuevo Enfoque association, and photographic material from Fotocolor.
