Mijas will host the II Mijas Ibérica Contest on the 6th of July, in the Andalucía Park in Las Lagunas, at 20:30 hours. This competition is part of the National Ham Cutters Competition ‘Popi Sabor a Málaga’, which tours different towns, qualifying the winner of each town for the final in 2025. In Mijas seven cutters will compete.
Lovers of this delicious food are in luck, as they will be able to enjoy the best professionals in the sector and taste this delicacy at affordable prices in an evening with musical performances.
The councillor for Festivities and Traditions, Silvia Marín (PP), accompanied by the director of Sabor a Málaga of the Provincial Council, Leonor García-Agua, was in charge of presenting the event, which is promoted by Corte de Autor Jamonería Gourmet and by José María Téllez ‘Popi’, who is also the organiser of the International Ham Fair in Estepona,
The Town Hall, toguether with businessmen from the area, are once again supporting this gastronomic event, which was a success in the previous edition. “The contestants will have to demonstrate their skill when slicing a ham while the jury will score, among other aspects, the style, quality of the slice, uniformity or the plating”, explained Marín.
The participating establishments will hold a charity raffle in aid of AFA Mijas. For his part, García-Agua highlighted the skill and professionalism of the participating cutters and stressed that this is an “ awaited event in which leisure, gastronomy and culture come together”, which supports and gives value to local producers and businesses.
