The Mijas Town Hall approved in plenary session on Wednesday 26th a modification of elements of the General Urban Development Plan (PGOU) to change the designation of a rustic land in the area of La Ventilla. According to the councillor for Town Planning, Lourdes Burgos (PP), "all the reports are favourable" and the modification affects "320,000 square metres, of which 209,000 square metres would be for industrial land and the rest for public facilities". The next step, according to the councillor, will be to send it "to the Provincial Urban Planning Commission so that all the relevant reports are requested in order to continue with the planning". Burgos also explained that with the plenary approval, the health impact study and the strategic environmental assessment also received the go ahead.
The item was approved unanimously by all parties, with the government team and the Socialist Municipal Group stressing the need to provide the municipality with land to diversify its economy. In this respect, the socialist councillor Laura Moreno pointed out that "this modification will mean greater coherence in the planning of industrial land, away from the urban centres and will stimulate business activity in a more suitable environment and not close to the towns". Moreno also highlighted the preservation of "the house of La Ventilla, included in the catalogue of historical heritage protection".
Strategic plan
The government team appreciated the support of the groups for the industrial development of this land, which is located at the intersection of Entrerríos. In addition, the councillor for Town Planning stressed that Mijas not only needs industrial land, but also "tertiary uses and other types of educational plots" and that "there is a lot of planning in the pipeline". In this regard, she announced to the Plenary that after the summer, a strategic plan will be promoted to define the strengths and weaknesses of the municipality in order to draw up a new PGOU.
