First day of the Las Lagunas Fair with the switching on of the traditional lighting

  • The day was dedicated to Children's Day
  • The king and queen of the festivities of Las Lagunas were also elected
  • La alcaldesa ha sido la encargada de inaugurar el encendido del recinto ferial. Estuvo acompañada por el equipo de gobierno, los Reyes de la Fiestas de 2023 y vecinos.

The Mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata, together with the councillors, the festivities team and neighbours, inaugurated the Las Lagunas Fair yesterday

Wednesday, which was the first day of the festivities, started with the dances of the sisters Gabriel, followed by the inauguration of the fairground with the switching on of the 500,000 light bulbs. The 20-metre high artistic portico presides over the fairground. After the inauguration, presided over by the mayoress of the town, Ana Mata (PP), the king and queen of the fair were revealed, Margot Leiva and Ángel Álvarez, as the king's companions Pepe Cabeza and Juan Enrique Rodríguez. The maids of honour were Hannah López and Raquel María Aragón, with Selena Aragón as Miss Congeniality.

In addition, the little ones enjoyed the Children's Day with the attractions at a reduced price of 2.50 euros. The music and other characteristic sounds of the attractions were eliminated from 19:00 to 21:00 hours so that children with special needs could enjoy the party.

The Youth Booth, this year organised by the Club Polideportivo Mijas Las Lagunas, started its programme with the closing of football teams, as well as different djs performances on the stage.

On the set of Mijas 3.40 TV, the mayoress said that "the feelings I have are very positive, I hope that both friends and families enjoy their festivities. There is a lot of people on the first day and this has just started. It must be said that there are activities for everyone and that a lot of work has been done by the different departments", to which she added that "this year we have a great façade, a well-decorated booth and beautiful lighting. I would also like the shops, bars and restaurants in the area to feel involved in the day fair on Avenida Miguel Hernández and to open their doors during these days". With regard to the programme of activities, he said that there is "something for everyone and one of the most beautiful events, without a doubt, is the celebratory dinner for the elderly, this year we have more than 1,000 people registered".

In addition, Mata said that "I must also highlight the important services involved in this type of events, we are aware of the people who work and who do a very important job, the logistics are essential, especially the security arrangements, I hope that we all work together to ensure that there are no problems".
