The singing and guitar workshops held their closing festival at the Manuel España Theatre, raising 1,750 euros for the association.

In Mijas, solidarity is very much alive, last Saturday the guitar and singing workshop by the Peña Flamenca Unión del Cante held its final performance, an event that turned into a charity festival in favour of the association Apaffer, the Association of Patients with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue and Other Rheumatic Diseases.

As the president of the peña, Diego Morilla, explained, "this event, in which the students put into practice everything they have learnt during the course, is heldevery year. But this year was different, the teachers Isabel Guerrero and José Antonio Rojas came up with the idea of holding a festival in the Manuel España Theatre, with the idea that the attendees would make a donation".

The donation was made by paying the ticket, all the money raised went in full to Apaffer. It was a proof that education, art, tradition and solidarity can make a beautiful recipe. A total of 1,750 euros were raised thanks to this end-of-course party turned into a flamenco solidarity festival.

The classic guitar teacher, José Antonio Rojas, thanked "all the attendees, because we have sold an incredible amount of tickets. We didn't expect so many people to come out and support us. Thanks of course, to the students, who are going to perform a series of palos, and they're going to do it with from their hearts".

The flamenco singing teacher, Isabel Guerrero, described what was to be performed on stage: "We are going to have a wide range of different styles of flamenco singing, including those that are a little bit forgotten, such as the mariana, the serrana, the peteneras...".

Thus, the students of the peña have been working throughout the course and their efforts have had a double reward, helping the more than 600 users of Apaffer to be able to pay for their various palliative therapies. For this reason, the president of Apaffer, Mercedes González, thanked "first of all the flamenco club, its board of directors and its teachers, for their initiative and for having us in mind. And then to all the people who contributed by attending this show".

The festival was held at the Manuel España Theatre thanks to the collaboration of Mijas Town Hall, something that was pointed out by the Mijas Councillor for Social Inclusion, Melisa Ceballos (PP), who attended the event along with other councillors from the local government team. "From the Mijas Town Hall and Ana Mata, obviously, we support flamenco, even more so if we help an association that does as much as Apaffer", said Ceballos.
