The Guardia Civil has arrested 15 people after seven property searches in Fuengirola, Estepona, Mijas and the Canary Islands

Guardia Civil officers, in a joint operation with the National Police, have broken up an organisation dedicated to the online sale of gummies contaminated with synthetic drugs. The members of the organisation, originally from Holland and based on the Costa del Sol, delivered the drugs by postal service all over Europe and had created a complex network of concealment and subsequent money laundering. Seven house searches were carried out on the Costa del Sol (Fuengirola, Mijas, Estepona) and the Canary Islands (Maspalomas), in which 12,000 bags of gummies and snacks soaked with THC, 281 vape with liquid cannabis, and 49 packets of different sizes with cocaine inside were seized.

The investigation began when officers received a report from the Belgian police according to which a Dutch citizen had been arrested at a parcel collection point with a shipment of 700 grams of narcotic substance, namely synthetic cathinone (3MMC).

Investigators discovered that the network that made the shipment was responsible for many other small shipments, through different logistics companies and using different recipients.

The leader of the organisation was a Dutch couple, well positioned on the Costa del Sol, with a high standard of living, owning many properties and businesses - including a gymnasium - in the areas of Fuengirola, Estepona and Mijas. In this last municipality, the investigators discovered that the organisation had two storage rooms in which they kept the merchandise.

In the searches, material for making narcotic substances, labelled and bagged, as well as firearms and large amounts of cash and crypto wallets were seized. Almost 620,000 euros from domestic accounts have been blocked and real estate properties valued at 1.5 million euros have been frozen.

Very dangerous sweets for health

The modus operandi of this organisation was to acquire sweets and snacks from factories in Holland, eastern Spain and even China, and to contaminate them with cannabinoids, using aerosols to impregnate the cannabis preparations. This method, according to the Guardia Civil, is very dangerous for health as there is no way to control the doses, as well as being more attractive to children and minors. The products were subsequently marketed in Malaga and Holland.
