The Town Hall of Mijas presents the Sardinada party, with which every year the International Workers' Day, May 1st, is celebrated. Everything is already prepared with 700 kilos of sardines, 12 municipal workers as 'espeteros' (sardine cookers), a big tent with live music, food and drinks.
According to the councillor for Festivities, Silvia Marín (PP), "the event will start at 12 noon, this year we will prepare 700 kilos of sardines, we will have a large tent in the square with live music, an orchestra and a cover band. We will also have a bar for anyone who wants to spend the day in the area so that they can have lunch or a drink, with a table area so that people can enjoy themselves all day long".
The Sardinada has already become a tradition, a beachside event in which 12 municipal workers are in charge of skewering the sardines, grilling them and then offering them for free to those who attend.
According to Marín, “we hope for good weather, but we are planning to set up a large tent to accommodate all the attendees, with a stage, a bar and tables and chairs where they can eat and relax too, and with plenty of dancing and partying for everyone to enjoy”.
The Santa Teresa Neighbourhood Association in La Cala will be in charge of the bar in the big tent that will be set up in the Plaza del Torreón. There will be live music and a good atmosphere to celebrate this tradition by the sea.
