On Monday, Mijas Town Hall formalised the cession of a municipal plot of land in favour of the Association for the Care of People with Cerebral Palsy, Cuppace, that will use this space to build a centre for the care of users in Mijas and other parts of the province, thinking especially of those who are seriously affected. "It is an ambitious and difficult project that requires a lot of time and money, but we have the will and we have experience, and there is a lot of interest in promoting it, so let's hope that everything goes smoothly", said the president of Cuppace, Julio Díaz. For her part, the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), added that "without a doubt, this initiative will not only help families with children with cerebral palsy here in Mijas but will have a provincial scope, so we are sure that the Junta de Andalucía will also get involved in this initiative, just as the Town Hall has done".
The cession is granted for a period of 40 years, as reflected in the deed of this land, classified as social facility, located in the urbanisation La Cala Hills and has a surface area of nearly 3,000 square metres.
The association now has 60 months to develop the project, which is valued at around seven million euros, but it appears to already have a way of financing the project to get it up and running. In this sense, the mayoress of Mijas highlighted the importance of the collaboration that should exist between public and private entities, in this case, to respond to a group with significant support needs due to their multiple disabilities. "I always say that a parent with a child with a disability is a super parent, because they have different conditions from any other family, and the daily overcoming they show makes the public administrations have the responsibility and obligation to respond to their concerns and facilitate their path ahead", said the mayoress.
The Cuppace association announced that, once the cession of this plot has been signed, they will soon hold a meeting with the team of architects who have drawn up this project "on a completely voluntary basis", said the president of the group, "and on April 18th we will also have a meeting with the Costa del Sol Hospital to inform them of our project, which relates to cerebral ictus".
The group also has the support and advice of the Malaga Association for the Care of People with Cerebral Palsy, whose president, Inmaculada Martínez, also attended the meeting held at the Town Hall.
Services of the group
The Cuppace association has been officially registered in Mijas since February 2016 although, according to Julio Díaz, it was founded 15 years ago to increase care for people with mental disabilities.
Among its activities, Díaz highlighted the ongoing collaboration it maintains with the Costa del Sol Hospital and, specifically, with the neonatal unit, "which for some years and thanks to the financial contribution of the Fundación Sonrisa, has been offering active hypothermia treatment to minimise perinatal brain damage resulting from problems during childbirth".
